Valtteri Bottas, poleman for the Portuguese Grand Prix

The Finn from Mercedes sidelined his teammate, multiple champion Lewis Hamilton.

An error-free qualifying lap allowed the Finn Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) stay with pole position for the 2021 edition of the Grand Prix of Portugal, third date of this season of the Formula 1.

The Nordic marked in his swift turn in Portimao a time of 1m18s348, marginalizing by seven thousandths his partner, the English Lewis Hamilton. In this way, the multiple champion is still unable to get his hundredth pole in the category.

The second row on the starting grid of the Portuguese GP will be occupied by the Red Bull from dutch Max Verstappen, who had the first of his two fastest laps canceled for exceeding the limits of the track at Turn 4, and the Mexican Sergio Pérez.

The Spanish Carlos Sainz Jr (Ferrari) and the French Esteban Ocon (Alpine) settle in the third row ahead of the British Lando Norris and from the Monegasque Charles leclerc (Ferrari).

The French Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri) signed the 9th best record, and the German Sebastian Vettel 10th, his best performance in the qualifying session since reaching Aston Martin at the beginning of the season.

With one victory and one pole each, Hamilton and Verstappen maintain almost identical trajectories at this start of the World Championship, with one more point for the first (achieved by the fastest lap in the Emilia-Romagna GP).

The race will start on Sunday at 11.00 in Argentina. It will be broadcast deferred at 18.30 pm by ESPN2...
