Hybrid vehicles: Fluids and lubricants as allies of clean transport

Due to their characteristics, models with this technology need products that match their performance.

In a globalized world that works in regulations to minimize the rate of environmental pollution and combat the effects of climate change, it is important that all industrial areas get involved. Thus, awareness and the need for measures regarding clean mobility, made possible the development of more ecological alternatives.

In this sense, the automotive market points to the full use of electric motors in the long term. However, and while working hard on this option, the hybrid vehicles they offer enormous advantages in sustainability.

Hybrid carA hybrid car feeds on two engines, one of internal combustion and the other electric, with the possibility of working, at times, only with electric power. Energy efficiency is its most important characteristic, since it seeks to reduce fuel consumption and therefore the emission of polluting gases.

As well is characterized by having a better performance as a consequence of the significant fuel savings due to the use of the electric motor. On the other hand, it has a internal battery that stores electricity to continue working even, in times of shortages. Finally, we must not fail to mention that noise pollution is ruled out, as well as the need to plug it in.

On this path towards environmentally conscious mobility, it is important to have technology that accompanies the evolution of the industry, with fluids and lubricants according to the new market needs. Currently, the requirements are a low viscosity lubricant (0W20) which, together with fluidity, ensures wear protection, thermal stability and cleanliness, which are critical in the lubrication of these motors.

Hybrid carOne of the characteristics that differentiate the combustion engine from the hybrid vehicle is the "Start-Stop" function, and in this sense, it is essential that the lubricant is prepared to minimize the wear produced at the time of each start.

In this sense, it is worth noting that Petronas Syntium 7000 Hybrid 0W20 is the first lubricant in Argentina designed in the light of hybrid technology, which complies with the standards ILSAC GF-5 y DEXOS 2 GEN2.

ILSAC GF-5 is a specification for high-efficiency oils recommended in gasoline engines. Today, this international specification is considered a leader in oils for these engines with fuel-saving characteristics and high ability to preserve the efficiency of catalytic converters.

Furthermore, PETRONAS Syntium 7000 Hybrid elevates product quality by incorporating the exclusive CoolTech technology, which helps dissipate engine heat up to 50% more than the industry average and encompasses Petronas Syntium's entire line of synthetics and semi-synthetics. Thus, the Malaysian company transfers the technology used in professional competition tracks to the streets.

Petronas Lubricants International currently focuses its investments on vehicles that are more environmentally friendly and have lower CO2 emissions per km traveled, and in this sense it has developed the IONA line of lubricants, designed for EVs (full electric vehicles).
