Belgian Thierry Neuville (Hyundai i20) won the 37th edition of Rally Argentina, the fifth round of the World Rally Championship that took place in Córdoba with more than 900.000 spectators between the four days of competition.
The race started with the Welshman Elfyn Evans (Ford Fiesta) as the great dominator. However, the M-Sport driver gave in to the final onslaught of his Hyundai rival. On Saturday Neuville had already deducted 50 seconds and that allowed him to start the last stage eleven seconds behind Evans.
The definition came in the Power Stage El Cóndor, the last section of the test organized by the Automobile Club Argentino. Evans arrived at this EP with only six tenths of advantage over Neuville, who made his experience weigh to be the fastest in the sector and thus stay with the victory by only seven tenths over Evans.
In this way, the definition remains in history as the tightest of all disputed editions. It is also the third most fought final of the World Rally Championship behind Jordan 2011 (two tenths between Sébastien Ogier and Jari-Matti Latvala) and New Zealand 2007 (three tenths between Marcus Gronholm and Sébastien Loeb).
The podium was completed by Estonian Ott Tanak (Ford Fiesta), who came half a minute behind the leaders. The Top 5 was completed by Frenchman Sébastien Ogier (Ford Fiesta), who continues to lead the tournament; and the Finnish Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota Yaris).
