The DeLorean that wants to fly

DeLorean

The automotive industry is not only focused on finding new sources of energy to power its cars or developing autonomous driving, but also on conquering the skies through flying vehicles.

Toyota, for example, decided to participate in the financing of a flying car project conceived by a group of young engineers.; and there are other initiatives such as those of the German companies Lilium and e-volo or the American Terrafugia, which has been working on prototypes for a long time with the aim of beating the automakers.

Recently a new project was known that is related to a car brand, which is not successful, although it is popular thanks to a movie. This is DeLorean, whose only model called DMC-12 He was the main protagonist of the Back to the Future trilogy.

The vehicle in question is called the DR-7 and is owned by DeLorean Aerospace, the company founded by Paul DeLorean, nephew of John DeLorean, the creator of the DMC-12.

According to its creators, the DR-7 "is built like a Formula 1 car" as it is conceived from a monocoque of composite materials. It is six meters long and the same wide, although the wings fold to fit in a conventional garage.

It takes off vertically thanks to two turbines in the center line of its chassis and is powered by electric motors with a range of 200 kilometers.

DeLorean Aerospace expects to have a full-size prototype within a year.
