Increase online search for used vehicles and 0km

According to a report by Mercado Libre Motors, a significant recovery is observed in the online search for vehicles.

After one auto market crash because of the social, preventive and compulsory isolation that was imposed by the pandemic of coronavirus, Mercado Libre Motors detected a growth in the demand for vehicles.

As a result of the closing of dealerships and automotive registrations, the purchase and sale of cars was affected, directly impacting demand. Nevertheless, an important recovery was observed in May.

According to a report prepared by the platform, last month the search for 0km cars grew 28%, compared to the months before the pandemic, being the record of searches so far this year. The recovery is also reflected in used cars, although to a lesser extent, with an increase of 2%.

The search for brand new cars and trucks grew 22% last month compared to January and 97% compared to the first four weeks of quarantine. The motorcycle category also benefited with an increase of 38% compared to January 2020, and 83% in relation to the first days of quarantine. After a large decline in the automotive industry, the rebound and growth of the category began.

The Top 5 of the most demanded 0km cars and trucks in May were VW Amarok, Chevrolet Onix, Toyota Hilux, VW Gold Trend y Ford Ranger. In relation to used cars, the pre-quarantine rates were exceeded, observing a 2% growth in searches on the platform compared to January 2020.

For some weeks, the demand was contained and after the reopening of operations there was a clear recovery 41%, compared to the first days of isolation. The most sought after vehicles were the Ford F-100 pickup, Toyota Hilux, VW Gol, Ford Ranger, and VW Vento.

“After a few months of a sharp decline in the automotive market, the industry is recovering. We see great growth in searches reaching the highest levels of the year. In addition, there was a significant acceleration in relation to the first days of isolation. This represents a great opportunity both for the dealerships that are operating and for individuals who want to sell their vehicle ”, said Juan Manuel Carretero, Manager of Motors for Argentina at Mercado Libre.
