Key electric bikes in the new normal

Companies that manufacture electric bicycles in Argentina receive more orders and inquiries since their products are considered the ideal means of mobility after COVID-19. The case of Rodar Electric, which expects to reach the end of 2020 with 1.500 units sold.

"Unfortunately due to the fear of COVID-19, but for the benefit of our business, people quickly began to inquire about this type of product, reinforcing the growth that the market had been having", added the executive.

Rodar Electric was founded in 2014 and in a short time it became a great reference in its sector. In an investment round he raised a million dollars, something that served to strengthen its structure. It started in a 3 × 8 meter garage and today they have a workshop of almost 1.000 m2 and premises in La Plata and Microcentro. By 2020 it expects to bill 120 million pesos and in 2021 raise that figure to 200 million pesos.

The company from La Plata even has a kit called Ge road allowing convert a normal bicycle into an e-bike. "It adjusts perfectly to any type of bicycle just by changing the front wheel ... It turns the bike into an electric vehicle with an assisted pedaling system"Savage explains.

So far this year, Rodar Electric has sold more than 689 electric bikes and the goal is to reach the 1.500 units in December. In addition to manufacturing and marketing, they now also provide service for all types of one-person electric vehicles.

The models sold by Rodar Electric have an autonomy that goes from 25 to the 55 kilometers. They are equipped with lithium batteries that are charged from any traditional plug such as a cell phone or a notebook and last between 800 and 1000 full charge and discharge cycles (approximately 30.000 km or three and a half years of useful life).

Prices range from $ 68.000 a $ 200.000 and all models have a twelve-month warranty. Shipments are made throughout the country and you can pay with Mercado Pago, transfer or credit cards.


First there are basic things like knowing riding a bicycle. Then it is necessary look for a quality product, since it is a transport that will walk in the street daily; and that it has a battery with sufficient autonomy to cover the distance you need to travel daily.

In addition, it is necessary be comfortable on the road since it will be used as a means of mobility. Protective helmet must be worn and have a padlock to prevent theft. You also have to have a after sales service and warranty and, optionally, have a theft insurance.

The cost of maintaining an e-bike is zero since its motors are free of brushes and gears. Like a conventional bicycle, precautions must always be taken with the operation of the brakes and gears.

It also has no costs for patenting, parking, fuel, and you don't need a driver's license.
